Time of Death

At 4:00 pm you took your last few breaths

At 4:00 pm I felt your unavoidable death

At 4:00 pm I heard the beeping of your monitors and machines slowly shutting down

I held your hand and told you everything was going to be okay

The memories we had together racing through my mind

Your smile became a photograph engraved in me, an image held in a frame

Your once contagious laughter became an echoing sound

My world went silent, my ears rang

I sat on the hospital’s asphalt curb

Staring at my half-eaten sushi

At 4:07 pm my world got a little smaller and you went farther away

At 4:08 pm you left the life you created behind

I dont remember the last thing I said to you

It didnt give me peace of mind

But you became like the moon was, above me, that night and since.
